The Wave of Gratitude for our Troops

The Gratitude Wave is a grassroots campaign to use our Facebook and Twitter status’ to lift up our troops and their families with words of thanks. Our goal is to set off an Internet wave that reaches the frontlines and the worried loved ones left behind. This idea was borne from the death of one soldier.

Journalist Mike Redding was invited to his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. And it changed his life. But far more important was the permanent change to a wife who buried her husband, and her three little girls who buried daddy that day. Mike wrote an honest, gut-wrenching account of that experience for his website StopandSmellthePeople.com and the article went viral. Soldiers fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq read it and emailed Mike their gratitude. They were comforted to know that their country still cared about those standing in the line of fire.

That’s when Mike got the idea to use social media to get our heartfelt words of thanks directly in front of the people who make the greatest sacrifices for our country. The Gratitude Wave is a chance for us to spark a chain reaction of thanks that encircles the globe and finds our troops and their families wherever they may be. Today at noon EST update your Facebook and Twitter accounts to reflect your words of gratitude. And get all your friends to do the same. If you don’t have a FB or Twitter account you can go directly to StopandSmellthePeople.com and leave your comments on the homepage.
